Endocrinology and Metabolism

  • Exact examination, customized treatment

    Introduction

The Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism diagnoses and treats abnormalities in hormones secreted from various endocrine organs in the body, or various diseases of hormone-secreting organs or target organs. The endocrine organs of our body include the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, gonad, adrenal gland, and pancreas, and related diseases include diabetes, thyroid disease, pituitary disease, adrenal disease, parathyroid gland and bone metabolic disease, gonad function abnormality, lipid metabolism abnormality, Obesity and various nutritional disorders.

After the establishment of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Kyung Hee University Hospital in 1977, it opened an endocrinology laboratory for the first time in Korea in 1980 and started radioimmunoassay measurement of hormones. In July 1991, through the expansion and reorganization of the Endocrine Research Center, endocrine molecular biology, which had been studied since the 1980s, was introduced into clinical research. In addition, various endocrine hormone measurement and function tests, diabetes complications tests, thyroid ultrasound, and microneedle aspiration tests for thyroid nodules are conducted through the Endocrine Lab and Diabetes Complications Lab. In addition, we operate a clinical laboratory for endocrine and metabolic diseases, conducting clinical development of new drugs and national research for various endocrine and metabolic diseases. In 2005, as the lead institution of the Korean National Diabetes Program (KNDP) designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, it worked with 12 university hospitals in Korea to identify the unique characteristics of Korean diabetic patients for a total of 9 years and provide appropriate treatment and management guidelines to prepare a turning point for Korean diabetes clinical research. Since 2007, for the first time in Korea, for the rapid diagnosis and treatment of thyroid nodules, the Department of Radiology and the Department of Pathology have opened a one-stop thyroid clinic in consultation, dramatically improving the convenience of treatment through examination and final confirmation within one day. In addition, since 2016, we have been hosting the Korean Diabetes Prevention Study (KDPS) in cooperation with the Korea Institute of Health and Medical Services and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Together with 15 university hospitals across the country, we are leading research to establish the most effective diabetes prevention strategy for the Korean people.

Currently, 9 professors from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Kyung Hee University Hospital are participating in the treatment and are striving to provide the best treatment for the patient's disease.

    Features

The Department of Endocrinology operates an endocrine laboratory and a complication laboratory to precisely diagnose and test various endocrine tests. Based on this, it is treated accurately in textbooks. In addition, if necessary, we do our best to solve the patient’s problems by closely consulting with other departments to cooperate and request treatment.
