Introduction

The Department of Nephrology at Kyung Hee University Hospital is composed of medical staff with the best clinical and academic achievements in various specialized fields, and treats kidney diseases with a heart for patients.

The nervous system has a detailed and complex structure, so neurosurgery is evaluated as a high-level operation. Therefore, careful and moderate treatment with high professionalism is required.

The kidney is a very important organ that plays a variety of roles, such as removing waste products and water, regulating various electrolytes, acid-base balance, blood pressure, and secreting hormones involved in bone health and red blood cell production. Recently, the number of patients with kidney disease has been steadily increasing. Early diagnosis and treatment are very important because kidney disease, if not properly managed and treated, worsens and progresses to end-stage renal disease requiring renal replacement therapy such as dialysis and transplantation.

The nephrology department treats patients complaining of hematuria, proteinuria, edema, electrolyte abnormalities, acid-base abnormalities, high blood pressure, and decreased renal function. It diagnoses and treats kidney disease, glomerular kidney disease, polycystic kidney disease, hereditary kidney disease, autoimmune kidney disease, vasculitis, urinary tract infection, pyelonephritis, and urolithiasis. In addition, we have diagnostic and treatment capabilities for severe, rare and intractable renal diseases, and provide renal replacement therapies such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation for patients who have progressed to end-stage renal disease.

Hemodialysis specialists and nurses perform hemodialysis for outpatients and inpatients in the artificial kidney room of our hospital. The peritoneal dialysis room provides education, coundeling, and treatment for peritoneal dialysis patients. In addition, we are continuously managing patients through the operation of a kidney transplantation center.
